Timber!...
The tree on the left is one of the ones that
we already cut down. We are going to cut
the other one down sometime soon.
To prepare for the garden this year, we downed some trees yesterday. Yes, there were some frightening moments. But there were also some satisfying moments, like for instance when the tree would hit the ground. There was one tree that we thought was going to fall that-a-way, but it ended up falling this-a-way. There is a video of it below. That was pretty scary, for my mom, but not me, of course. You would think that if you saw the tree falling your way, then you would have like 4 seconds before you were clobbered. Gravity is amazingly strong. It only takes 1 second when you're in a panic situation! We figured out a piece of information that will help us a lot in future tree falls---The tree is gonna fall how the tree wants to fall. You might get lucky sometimes and the tree wants to fall the way that you want it to fall, but you can't make it fall a certain way. Here are some pictures.
This is the way that we cut the tree. First, cut a wedge
in the tree, about half way through.
Then, cut into the other side of the tree even with the gash
until the tree falls.
This tree came very close to hitting the boys' room!
Listen close at the 7 second mark on this one.
